Ukhrul: The Kuki Inpi has strongly denounced allegations by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) that the Kuki-Zo community initiated the ongoing Manipur conflict. In a statement, the Kuki Inpi labelled these claims as “baseless,” “outrageous,” and a deliberate attempt to distort facts and justify violence against the Kuki-Zo people.

According to the statement, the accusations are part of a calculated campaign to rewrite history and obscure the truth. The Kuki Inpi alleged that COCOMI, backed by radical Meitei leadership, has been instrumental in propagating falsehoods to mislead the public and whitewash what it described as “heinous actions” by the actual perpetrators of violence. “It is a calculated attempt to rewrite history and obscure the truth,” the statement said, pointing to a public declaration by COCOMI on June 7, 2023, which allegedly announced a “Manipuri National War” against the Kuki-Zo people.

The Kuki Inpi accused Chief Minister N. Biren Singh of leading a campaign of violence and ethnic persecution against the Kuki-Zo people, in collusion with his private militias, COCOMI, and groups described as “Valiant Blood Infantry Groups (VBIGs).” The organization claimed that this collusion with the state apparatus has resulted in widespread atrocities, ethnic cleansing, and the destruction of the Kuki-Zo community.

“Since May 3, 2023, the Kuki-Zo people have faced relentless persecution,” the statement said. “Hundreds of innocent Kuki-Zo civilians have been brutally killed, and entire villages, homes, and properties have been systematically destroyed, burned, and looted.” The Kuki Inpi described these actions as a campaign of terror aimed at annihilating their community and erasing their existence from ancestral lands. It further accused the Manipur state government, led by N. Biren Singh, of actively abetting this “genocidal campaign.”

In response to these sustained atrocities, the Kuki Inpi reiterated its demand for the creation of a Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo people. Such a measure, the statement emphasized, is the only viable solution to ensure the safety, cultural preservation, and constitutional rights of the community. “The only viable solution to restore peace, justice, and dignity is the immediate creation of a Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo people,” the statement said, adding that this would guarantee the protection of their culture, land, and identity.

The statement also demanded the immediate cessation of violence, propaganda, and what it described as the denial of equality and justice to the Kuki-Zo people. “The radical Meitei leadership, including the Chief Minister, his militias, and organizations like COCOMI, must immediately cease their campaign of violence, propaganda, obstruction of justice, and denial of equality to the Kuki-Zo people,” the Kuki Inpi declared.

It warned that continued suppression and marginalization of the Kuki-Zo community would only deepen the crisis and escalate the injustice perpetrated by the current regime. The Kuki Inpi called on both the state and central governments to take immediate action to resolve the conflict and ensure justice and equality for the Kuki-Zo people.

“The Kuki-Zo people demand nothing less than the full recognition of their rights and dignity,” the statement said. “Any further attempts to suppress or marginalize our community will only exacerbate the crisis and highlight the ongoing injustice.”
