Shillong: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance pertaining to the killing of a daily wager in Shillong on April 10.
The Commission has issued a notice to the Director General of Police, Meghalaya to submit an action taken report within 15 days, a press release said today.
On April 10, a labourer succumbed to his injuries after he along with two others were assaulted by miscreants at Mawlai Mawroh.

East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi had informed that some unknown miscreants assaulted 3 labourers working at an under-construction house at Mawlai Mawroh.
“Due to the assault, one person identified as Shri Arjun Ray (52 years) got severely injured and later died at NEIGRIHMS. In this connection, a case is being registered and an investigation is under progress to identify the culprits,” he said.
Raja Ram, who is one of the injured labourers, said that a group of 5-6 masked people came and started asking for the production of a labour license.

“Despite informing that the labour licenses are there with the employer, the masked people started assaulting us mercilessly with an iron rod,” he had said.
