VPP lodges FIR against Deputy CM in-charge Prestone Tynsong

Shillong: Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator from North Shillong Adelbert Nongrum on Wednesday lodged a first information report (FIR) against Meghalaya deputy chief minister in-charge Home (police) Prestone Tynsong, secretary, Home (police) and chairman of the recruitment board for violation of Office Memorandum (OM) on age relaxation.

In his complaint lodged with the Sadar police station, Nongrum said, “I request you to kindly register this First Information Report (FIR) against the IGP (R/PR) cum-Chairman, CRB and the Principal, PTS cum-Member Secretary, CRB and other Members of the CRB, Meghalaya for criminal offence u/s 218 and 167 of IPC r/w Sec 120A IPC and other relevant provisions of law.”

“I further request you to kindly register an FIR against the Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Dept. and the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya in-charge Home (Police) for abetment u/s 107 IPC for the criminal offences mentioned in para above,” he said.

Nongrum said that “the actions of the Members of CRB, Meghalaya with respect to preparing the upper age limit in the CRB Advertisement, the action of the Secretary to the Govt. of Meghalaya, Home (Police) Dept. in not issuing curative instructions to CRB, Meghalaya in spite of being apprised of the violation of O.M. on Age Relaxation, and the action of the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya in-charge Home (Police) in misleading the public on the Proviso of O.M. on Age relaxation, together jeopardized the employment opportunities of young people of the state and infringed on their Constitutional right to life and liberty.”

Nongrum said the upper age limit for entry into government service was enhanced vide Office Memorandum (O.M.) No. PER.38/2021/30 Dt. 03.02.2022 issued by the Personnel & A.R. (A) Department, Government of Meghalaya (hereinafter referred to as ‘O.M. on Age Relaxation’].

“However, the O/o the Inspector General of Police (R/PR) cum-Chairman, Central Recruitment Board (CRB), Meghalaya has invited online applications for recruitment to vacancies in Meghalaya Police vide Advertisement No. PTS/CRB/RECR/2023-24/350 Dt. 06.03.2024 (hereinafter referred to as ‘CRB Advertisement’] wherein upper age limit for various posts in Unarmed Branch and Armed Branch have been set in clear violation of the O.M. on Age Relaxation,” he said.

He added, “Therefore, it is my complaint as a responsible public representative and legislator that the combined actions of the IGP (R/PR) cum-Chairman, CRB along with the Principal, Police Training School (PTS) cum-Member Secretary, CRB and other Members of the CRB in preparing upper age limit in the CRB Advertisement in a manner that they ought to know is incorrect and knowing that it is likely to cause loss or injury to persons who are otherwise eligible in accordance with the O.M. on Age Relaxation, amounts to criminal offence u/s 218 and 167 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) read with Section 120A IPC.”
