Senapati, 25 July: Members of the Lecturers Association, Manipur (LAM) belonging to Kangpokpi and Senapati districts have demanded early regularisation of their services while rejecting the contractual salary as proposed by the state government. This statement was made during a press conference held at Senapati on Friday, while the regularised lecturers of the 2018 batch have been on a pen-down strike under the LAM since July 21.
It may be noted that the Lecturers Association, Manipur is an association formed by the regularised lecturers of the 2018 batch who were appointed on a contract basis vide Government Order No. 40/1/2018-SE(S). These lecturers were regularised on 8th January 2022, vide Order No. 40/01/2018-SE(S) as per the cabinet decision taken on 04/01/2022, with the concurrence of DP vide U.O. No. 96(A)2021-2022 issued in the name of the Governor by the Commissioner of Education, Government of Manipur. Regular pay was to take effect from 1st April 2023, vide Order No. 40/01/2018-SE(S), Government of Manipur.
The prolonged and lackadaisical steps taken by the government in completing the necessary process for regularisation and the non-payment of regular salary since 1st April 2023 compelled the association to launch the agitation, they said. The body demands the completion of regularisation at the earliest, within a specific timeframe, and payment of regular pay as per the government order.

Addressing the media during the conference, one of the lecturers stated that the regularised lecturers of the 2018 batch came together at Senapati district headquarters, marking the fifth day of their pen-down strike under the banner of the LAM. The lecturers of the 2018 batch were stated to have been regularised on 8th January 2022. The order is said to clearly mention that the lecturers would be entitled to salary and allowance to commence from 1st April 2023. However, the lecturers stated they haven’t received regular pay till date.
The lecturers urged the Government of Manipur to complete their regularisation process at the earliest. They also urged the Government of Manipur to provide regular payment as per the order. If the government fails to look into the grievances of the 2018 batch lecturers, the body warns it will intensify its agitations under the consideration of the Lecturers Association, Manipur.
