Noney: The death toll due to the massive landslide at a railway construction site in Manipur’s Noney district rose to 55 with one more dead body recovered on Saturday, the day 17 of the search and rescue operation.
An official source said that the yet to be identified dead body was retrieved from the landslide debris on the bank of Ijei river today, around 12.20 pm.
The search operation for the missing bodies will continue as six more persons affected by the landslide are still missing, the source added.

The massive landslide hit the campsite of the Northern Frontier Railway and the 107 Territorial Army (TA) at Marangching village in Noney district on the intervening night of June 29-30.
The devastating landslide affected several people people, mostly personnel of the TA and on the first day of the rescue operation 18 persons were rescued alive.
A Joint Task Force comprising Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, Army Medical Doctors, Manipur police, fire service personnel and local volunteers have launched the search and rescue operation.
Of the missing, the search team has so far recovered 55 dead bodies including the one recovered today.
