Landslide in Manipur: Five more bodies recovered, death toll climbs to 47

Noney: The death toll from the devastating landslide in Manipur’s Noney district rises to 47 with five more dead bodies recovered on Monday.

Official reports said that five more bodies were recovered today. A Joint Task Force comprising Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, Army medical doctors, Manipur police, fire service personnel, volunteers of MMTA and locals launched the rescue operation to trace the missing persons.

The massive landslide which occurred in the wee hours of June 30 had severely hit Tupul railway construction camp at Marangching where a column of the Territorial Army (TA) also camp to protect railway staff and workers.

Due to highly decomposed conditions, officials are facing difficulties in the identification of the bodies. However, they suspected three of the recovered bodies would be personnels of TA.
The search and rescue operation will continue further as around 14 persons are still missing, the reports said.
