Imphal: Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur, has announced today the commencement of the student body’s Education Tour from March 15 headed by its president Mathiuchunbou Rimai along with his executives. The tour is in alignment with the resolution number 3 passed during its 1st Legislative Assembly convened at Aling village on March 9, 2024. The tour aims to cover all the 90 Liangmai villages that lie within the LNKR-M jurisdiction, under the theme “Educate, Agitate and Organise”.

According to the Liangmai student body, the tour reflects the importance of empowering individuals though advocating for necessary changes, and fostering unity within the community. This ethos is crucial in addressing the pressing issues faced by the education sector in the hill areas of Manipur state exacerbated by the impact of Covid-19 and the ongoing ethnic crisis in Manipur, it added.
The student body then said the current state of affairs of schools in hill areas paints a grim picture, with many lacking basic facilities such as proper school building, infrastructure and other basic needs of the students. “The disparity between schools in valley areas and those in hills areas is stark, highlighting the historical neglect of the education sector in these regions”, the Liangmai student body pointed out.

The LNKR-M then appealed to the Education department and school authorities to cooperate in necessitating immediate action in the field of education sector. The student body appraises the teachers who are posted in all the Liangmai areas to be stationed in their appointed schools during the visit. The LNKR-M urged the Education department to ensure that the appointed teachers fulfil their duties diligently and advocate for strict measures to improve the quality of education for all.
As the Education Tour kicks off on March 15, LNKR-M called upon concerned departments, teachers, parents, and community members to join hands in creating a conducive environment for learning and development. “Together, we can strive towards a brighter future for our children and uphold the values of education as a cornerstone of progress,” it added.

Meanwhile, the LNKR-M then expressed its unhappiness to learn that some of the Liangmai villages have been cultivating poppy plantations. “Whereas, the Government of Manipur is battling for ‘War on Drug’ our own people are involved in such illegal practices. The LNKR-M strongly denounces illegal practices such as poppy cultivation among the villagers and emphasizes the importance of steering towards excellence, particularly in education,” it asserted. The LNKR-M also said it fully endorsed resolution number 4 passed by the Liangmai Naga Council during the half-yearly meeting held on October 12, 2023 at Malek, Tamei and appealed to all stakeholders to collaborate in transforming the education system in the region.
