The Central Office Bearers (COB) of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed its appreciation to the resolution of the working committee of the party for extending invitation to the regional parties to come together in the larger interest of the people. This was stated in a press statement of the party today.

The NPF then urged the Government of India and the “Naga negotiating parties to come to a logical conclusion on the Naga political issue at the earliest”. These are some of the resolutions adopted during an emergency meeting of the Central Office Bearers (COB) of the NPF today at its Central Office in Kohima, the statement said.

The COB of the NPF then resolved to wholeheartedly work for the success of the NPF candidates in Manipur 12th Legislative Assembly election 2022. The COB appealed to all the NPF ticket aspirants who were denied the party ticket to “kindly” extend support to the NPF “official” candidates, the press note further said.

The COB also endorsed the party president to decide the date and venue of the general convention of the party as it is already due to be summoned. The COB of the NPF also urged the Government of India “to lift the AFSPA from the entire Nagaland immediately and also repeal the draconian Act from the entire North East region as well”.

The COB then appreciated the UDA government in Nagaland for according recognition to Tikhir tribe as one of the recognised tribes of Nagaland.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the Central Working president, Apong Pongener reminded the meeting that the NPF belongs to the Naga people and the party itself represents the identity and the desire of the Naga people.

While lauding the party rank and file for always standing firm for the cause and interest of the Naga people, the Working president called upon the party leaders to remain steadfast in their stand inspite of facing any odds then certainly, the people will have trust in them for the safety of the future.

Talking about the upcoming Assembly election in Manipur, Apong Pongener said that the NPF has set up only 10 candidates but believed that all the ticket holders are strong candidates and “hope will emerge victoriously”.

He then expressed regret that the party could not conduct the party general convention for the last three years due to pandemic but said that it should be held soon since the general election of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly also only a year away.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary general of the party, Achumbemo Kikon briefed on how the 10 candidates of the party for the Manipur election were selected stating that 40 ticket applicants were received by the party. He also said that even in “non Naga tribal areas”, many aspirant candidates sought the NPF ticket but the party has zeroed down to 10 seats only, the NPF press statement added.
