Lotha Students’ Union Bengaluru Holds 27th Annual Freshers’ Meet

The Lotha Students’ Union Bengaluru (LSUB) hosted its 27th Annual Freshers’ Meet at the Paalaana Bhavana premises in Benson Town, Bengaluru on August 24, under the theme “Transcending Cultural Amnesia.” The event, which aimed to foster unity and camaraderie among the diverse Naga community in Bengaluru, saw the participation of over 140 individuals, including executives from the Naga Students’ Union Bengaluru (NSUB) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Union Bengaluru (ENSUB), sub-unit leaders, church leaders, well-wishers, and community members from various Naga tribes. The Special Guest of the event was Dr. Eyingbeni Humtsoe Nienu, Faculty Christian Theological College & Dr. O. Grace Ngullie as Guest Speaker, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

In her address, Dr. Nienu emphasized the importance of revitalizing cultural values and transcending the past to create a better future. She encouraged students to develop an intellectual appetite through reading, reasoning, and engaging in discussions that lead to constructive solutions. She also urged them to be optimistic while avoiding toxic positivity, as negativity can be destructive.

Dr. Nienu further advised the students to cherish the wisdom of their ancestors while embracing new friendships, ideas, and relationships that contribute to personal and communal growth. She highlighted the importance of being “glocal” – making a positive impact both locally and globally – in their workplaces, educational institutions, and communities.

In addition, Dr. Ngullie, another speaker at the event, spoke on the significance of freedom, excellence, and morality in student life. She underscored the pursuit of excellence while adhering to ethical principles, noting that genuine success is measured not only by achievements but also by the honesty, respect, and commitment to doing good for others.

A highlight of the event was the Mr. and Miss Fresher contest, where Lochumi A. Murry and Pithungo O. Ngullie were crowned the winners. The program began with an invocation by Ms. Sungbeni Murry, followed by a welcome speech from LSUB President Myingthungo T. Yanthan. The event was hosted by Arhoni C. Jungio and concluded with a benediction by Ms. Thungbeni Tungoe.

Participants enjoyed a traditional Lotha culinary spread, adding a touch of cultural flavor to the memorable gathering.
