Manipur Violence: Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar shot dead

Moreh: Sub Division Police Officer (SDPO) of Moreh Police Station, Chingtham Anandkumar, was tragically shot dead in a fresh outbreak of violence, suspected to be carried out by Kuki militants, along the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 am.

SDPO Anandkumar was shot in the stomach, suspected to be from a sniper rifle while he was supervising the cleaning of Eastern Shine Ground for helicopter landing at Moreh Ward Number 7 under Moreh Police Station. He was rushed to Moreh Primary Health Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries around 10 am.

The deceased Moreh SDPO was airlifted from Moreh to Imphal by a helicopter. His body was taken to JNIMS Morgue in Porompat straight from Imphal International Airport. Several senior police officers, including DIG Range-1 N Herojit, IGP (Intelligence) K Kabib, Imphal East SP Dr S Ibomcha, Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta, and other top officials and personnel, visited JNIMS Morgue to express their condolences to the bereaved family.

Following the incident, a combined team of state and central forces launched extensive combing operations in Moreh to locate the perpetrators. However, no arrests have been made till the time of filing this report. Additional forces have also been dispatched to the border town under Tengnoupal district.

Chief minister N Biren Singh took to X and said that he is deeply saddened by the cold-blooded killing of SDPO Chingtham Anand, OC Moreh Police this morning.
