Man arrested for manufacturing and smuggling brown sugar

Imphal: A man, expert in manufacturing and smuggling of brown sugar, was arrested along with two kg of brown sugar in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Tuesday.

Police said the arrested man has been identified as Md Amar Ahmad (24) under Thoubal police station.

He was arrested from his house following interception of the brown sugar wrapped in a black colour polythene bag during a raid at his house today morning, around 5 am, the police also said.

A team of Thoubal district police conducted the raid based on specific information, the police further said.

Preliminary investigation, the police revealed, that the arrested person manufactures brown sugar from opium he procures from Churachandpur district.

After manufacturing, sells the drugs to drug peddlers in Assam, the police alleged.
