Man held with 1.335 kg of heroin powder in Manipur

Police in Manipur’s Churachandpur district seized a huge quantity of contraband drug (heroin powder) during a check of a vehicle on Thursday, according to police. 

The police arrested a passenger of the vehicle after the contraband drug weighing about 1.335 kg was found hidden in the vehicle, the police source said. It further said that a team of Churachandpur district police conducting frisking and checking at Rengkai bridge along Churachandpur-Sugunu Road based on reliable information intercepted the vehicle coming from Sugunu side on Thursday, around 7.30 am. The police conducted an intensive checking after one and only passenger in the vehicle was found very nervous and restless when the vehicle was stopped, the police source added. 

According to the police, on questioning him, the passenger, later identified as Thangkhomang of Chandel district disclosed that he was transporting contraband drugs concealed inside a white cooler machine. Police said the man further divulged to the former that the cooler was handed over to him by one Haopu at his shop in Joupi who promised him Rs 20,000 for transporting it to Churachandpur. 

The vehicle and the person were taken to Churachandpur police station and on disassembling the cooler, 100 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing about 1.335 kg approx. (including the weight of the plastic cover) was found hidden inside. 

The arrested person along with the seized item has been handed over to Churachandpur police station after registering a case for investigation, the police source added.
