Man shot dead in Ukhrul dist; Hungpung frontal orgs condemn

Ukhrul: Police in Ukhrul district have recovered a bullet ridden dead body from a bush on the side of NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road), an official source said on Wednesday.

The deceased was later identified as PS Thanmi (42), son of PS Luingam of Kajiphung village of Ukhrul district, according to police.

The police said that the dead body was retrieved on Tuesday night, around 8.30 pm by a team of Ukhrul police station who rushed to the spot based on specific information regarding the shooting to death of a person by miscreants.

The body was found near a bush in the forest area at Choidhar Junction on the side of NH-202.

The deceased had two bullet injury marks on his head and his hands were tied with a rope on the back.

The police as well as the family of the deceased are yet to ascertain the identities of the perpetrators and the motives behind the killing. The deceased is survived by his wife and a minor daughter.

Meanwhile, the Hungpung (village) frontal organisations have vehemently condemned the brutal murder of PS Thanmi. In a condemnation note, jointly signed by Hungpung Village Authority, Women of Hungpung Unit for Social Advancement, Thawaijao Hungpung Young Students’ Organisation, the village frontal organisations grieved that such unfortunate incident happened.

Urging the authority to nab the absconding culprits as per the law at the earliest to avoid such inhumane incident in the future, the village frontal organisation prayed for the bereaved family.
