Manipur: 4 Militants Involved in Extortion Arrested

Ukhrul, Feb 5: In a series of operations conducted in Imphal and adjoining areas on February 4, 2025, the Manipur Police arrested four militants from various groups involved in extortion activities.

The police apprehended two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (PWG) identified as Ningthoujam Jupiter Singh, alias Bungcha (27), and Sorokhaibam Amarjit Singh, alias Halakpa Khuman, (28) from Mahabali under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East. The duo are directly involved in extorting money from the general public, government officials, shopkeepers, and others in the greater Imphal area, the police said. One M20 pistol loaded with five live rounds, one two-wheeler, one sling bag, and two mobile phones were recovered from their possessions.

In another operation, one active cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) identified as Lourembam Mani Singh, alias Lurengamba, alias Manimukta (46) was arrested from Takyel Kolom Leikai under Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West. He was reported to have been directly involved in extorting money from various government offices in the Imphal area. The police seized one mobile phone, one two-wheeler, a black wallet containing an Aadhaar card, and cash amounting to Rs. 4,270.

Furthermore, the police apprehended a cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Pukhrambam Prem Singh, alias Hopson (47), from the Ningthoukhong ITI road, Ward No. 13 in Ningthoukhong, Bishnupur District. He was reportedly involved in extorting large sums of money from the general public, businessmen, and government officials in the Nambol, Bishnupur, and Ningthoukhong areas. Three mobile phones, a wallet containing a PAN card, an Aadhaar card, and other documents were recovered from his possession.
