Imphal: At least 33 persons have been arrested, including seven juveniles, in connection with Tuesday’s violent protests in Imphal.
Taking to X, Manipur Police on Thursday said, “In follow-up to the violent protests in the past few days, Manipur Police have arrested 33 people and apprehended seven juveniles from various places.”
The police also informed that necessary legal proceedings will be initiated against them and urged the public not to engage in unlawful activities, while cooperating with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and normalcy.

On Monday, hundreds of students from various schools and colleges took to the streets of Imphal, protesting against the prolonged unrest in the state. The protesters gathered in front of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, demanding action against those responsible for recent drone and missile attacks in the state. They also called for the protection of Manipur’s territorial integrity.
Similarly, scores of protesters marched and protested outside Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Governor, demanding that the Unified Command Authority, currently overseeing security in Manipur, be handed over to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
On Tuesday, these student protesters once again attempted to march to the heavily guarded Raj Bhavan, defying the curfew imposed in the area.

Security personnel stationed in the area tried to stop the protesters from proceeding further, leading to a clash between the protesters and the security forces. As many as 70 students and over 10 security personnel, including VDF members, were reportedly injured in the clashes.
Amid the fresh tensions, the state government has already imposed a curfew in some districts and suspended internet services to prevent further escalation and restore law and order in the state.
