Manipur: bid to block roads leading to hills foiled; torch rally organised in Moirang Kendra

Imphal: In a bit to counter ‘Tribal Solidarity March’, in the hill districts of Manipur, different parts of the valley areas in the State are up against the solidarity march organised under the aegis of All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur against the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST category.

The counter protest in the valley, by and large led to the blockade of roads in the early morning of Wednesday in Imphal East district, leading to interference in vehicular movements in Imphal-Ukhrul road; Imphal-Churchandpur road, Imphal-Kangpokpi road by some volunteers and supporters of Meitei/Meetei ST demand.

However, due to grivancies faced by common people consult Police Station lead by commanding officer of the station cleared all the blocked leading to Imphal-Churchandpur road, as well as Ukhrul and Kangpokpi roads, according to sources, bringing it back to normalcy.

Under the supervision of consult SP, Police personel have been deployed in various parts of the valley to deter any unwanted incident.

Meanwhile, Voice of the People of Moirang Kendra on Tuesday night organised a torch rally against individuals of Churachandpur district who appeared in media platform and spoke ill against the chief minister of Manipur N Biren Singh.

Large number of civil society organisations, clubs and meira paibi of Moirang Kendra rallied from Kwakta Bazar to Chingei Lampak Moirang of Bishnupur district on Tuesday night.

A member of the Voice of the People of Moirang Kendra, Y. Modhu speaking to media said that everyone has to speak freely according to the freedom of speech enshrined in the Indian Constitution, but it does not mean that such law allows one to speak unsavoury things against the chief minister of the State. We have been living in harmomy since time immemorial. But some immigrant are bent to destroy our land. It is very unfortunate.

Putting an ultimatum forward, Voice of the People of Moirang Kendra further told media that mass protest and shutdown will be launched in Tiddim road if those individuals will not apologize within 72 hours.
