Imphal: Shamjetsabam Sarjubala Devi, a 30-year-old international boxer from Manipur, received a warm reception by her family, friends and fans upon her arrival at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal on Monday.

A former youth world champion and an Olympian, boxer Sarjubala Devi recently won the Pro Boxing Middle East Crown Series (CMEC) 5th tournament after defeating Thailand’s Rani Klinratree in the female flyweight division in Melbourne, Australia on December 15.

With his feat, boxer Sarjubala has now secured three consecutive wins at International pro boxing events.
In 2022, Sarjubala Devi made her debut in professional boxing and defeated Lulu Kayage of Tanzania in Dubai. In the same year, she again defeated Khwunchit Khunya of Thailand in Colombo.

Expressing her happiness, the Indian boxer said that she is happy to be back in her home state after winning the international tournament.
I am very happy for the achievement and I want to dedicate this medal to all those people who have been killed in the conflict, said boxer Sarjubala Devi amid the rousing homecoming welcome.

Lamenting that her home state has been badly affected owing to the conflict, Sarjubala Devi hopes that peace and normalcy will restore soon in the state.
“I hope that my achievement brings hope to the people of the state amid this hard times. And it is my humble prayer that peace will restore soon and unite the people together like in the past,” said the Indian boxer.
She also revealed that every spheres of life, including sports in the state was badly affected due to the crisis.
Prior to the international tournament, Sarjubala Devi was trained in Chandigarh and Delhi as the training couldn’t take place in Manipur amid the crisis.
