Manipur By-Election: Postal ballot for COVID-19 patients and old persons

Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur P.K. Singh said on Tuesday that postal ballots will be available to elderly persons, persons with disabilities and those COVID-19 patients who are under quarantine in the coming by-election in Manipur. Deletion and correction of electoral rolls will not be allowed, he also said. However, in case of addition, it can be done  ten days ahead of nominations, added the CEO. 

The CEO said this while talking to reporters at the Conference Hall of CEO in connection with the State’s preparation for the upcoming by-election on November 7.

 Latest mark III Electoral Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT)  will be used in the by- election.

The CEO then said that, in connection with the by-election to Wangoi, Saitu, Singngat, Wangjing Tentha and Lilong Assembly constituencies,  the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur has almost completed  preparation under guidelines from the Election Commission of India.

With the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of India, the model of code of conduct comes into effect immediately in the entire district of Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Churachandpur. However, in Imphal West district, model code of conduct will be applicable only in the assembly segment of Wangoi AC as it falls within the capital district.
