Manipur Clinches Junior Girls National Football Championship Title

Manipur secured the title of ‘Junior Girls National Football Championship Tier 1’ after defeating Jharkhand 2-0 in the final match held on Tuesday. The victory was sealed with goals from Lourembam Menaka and Remi Thokchom, scored in the 36th and 67th minutes, respectively.

Throughout the tournament, Manipur demonstrated their prowess, overcoming Delhi 1-0 in the semi-final and defeating teams from Haryana, West Bengal, and Goa in the league stages. The consistent performance by the Manipur team proved their dominance and determination to claim the championship.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) said that “Despite being reduced to 10 players after centre-back Sarangthem Alena Devi’s red card as early as the 18th minute, Manipur rode on goals from Lourembam Menaka Devi and Remi Thokchom on either side of half-time to win their record-extending 11th Junior Girls’ NFC trophy. For Jharkhand, it was their second runners-up finish, after losing to Himachal Pradesh in the 2019-20 final.”

The tournament was organized by the AIFF, attracting teams from across the nation to compete in this prestigious event.
