Imphal, August 6: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) held a press conference on Tuesday, defending Outer Manipur MP Alfred Kan-ngam Arthur against the backlash following his maiden Lok Sabha speech on July 30. In his address, Alfred K Arthur suggested that the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh be replaced due to his failure to address the ongoing crisis in the state.
MPCC Working President Kh Debabrata spoke at the press conference, asserting that Alfred K Arthur, as an opposition MP, was simply presenting an alternative viewpoint. Kh Debabrata highlighted that it is the duty of MPs and MLAs to offer constructive criticism and bring attention to pressing issues.

“MP Arthur’s remarks were not intended to undermine the current leadership but to encourage the Prime Minister to consider appointing a more capable leader from among the state’s ruling MLAs to effectively address the crisis,” Kh Debabrata clarified. “As representatives of the people, it is our responsibility to suggest solutions and ensure that the government is held accountable.”
The MPCC said that Alred K Arthur’s speech was in line with the democratic principles of providing checks and balances and should be viewed as a constructive contribution to the ongoing political discourse in Manipur.
The press conference also underscored the need for all political parties to work together in addressing the challenges facing the state, urging a collaborative approach to ensure stability and progress for the people of Manipur.
