Imphal: Congress in Manipur on Saturday staged a protest in front of the party office in Imphal against an alleged attempt to torch the party office on Friday night.

On Friday night, around 10 pm, miscreants set fire at the gate of the Congress Bhavan in Imphal located in the heart of the state capital, Congress workers alleged. The protest also registered a strong denouncement over the alleged attempt to arrest president Ningthoujam Popilal of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) by the police after registering an FIR against him.

The FIR against Popilal is reportedly related with the physical assault of the two Manipur unit BJYM leaders by four armed miscreants on the night of February 9.

The protesters said that the charges leveled against MPYCC president were unfounded and the police should immediately stop searching for him. The FIR against him should be returned.
