Imphal, July 10: As the crisis of displacement continues in Manipur, the Congress party has stepped up its efforts, demanding urgent government action. Manipur Congress president K. Meghachandra met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan to submit a letter listing three key demands concerning internally displaced persons (IDPs).
After the meeting, Meghachandra addressed reporters on Thursday, voicing deep concern over what he described as slow progress in the resettlement of thousands of people.

He urged both the Centre and the state government to fix a clear deadline for the return of displaced people to their original homes. “There should be no policy that divides the communities further,” he said, adding that delay in action is worsening the humanitarian situation.
The Congress leader also pushed for transparency in financial assistance, insisting that funds meant for IDPs must be sent directly to their personal bank accounts. “Money should not go through middlemen or political workers. It must reach the people directly,” he said.
