Ukhrul, June 10: Curfew has been relaxed in Imphal West district, Manipur on Tuesday. According to an order issued by Imphal District Magistrate, Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, curfew has been relaxed from 5 AM to 5 PM, while the prohibitory order will remain imposed from 5 PM to 5 AM.

In an order issued on Tuesday, the district magistrate stated that the situation has been reviewed and it is deemed appropriate to partially relax the restrictions while ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order. Hence, movement of any person outside their respective residence is “permitted” from 5 AM to 5 PM, provided no act or activity is carried out that could disturb the prevailing law and order in the scheduled area; movement of any person outside their respective residence is “prohibited” from 5 PM to 5 AM; Assembly of five or more persons in public place and carrying of sticks, stones, firearms, sharp weapons, or explosive materials in the scheduled area remains strictly prohibited, it mentioned. The order will remain effective till further notice.

Prohibitory orders were imposed in five valley districts of Manipur, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching district while internet and mobile-data services, including VSAT and VPN facilities have been suspended in the five districts for five days with effect from 11:45 PM on June 7 after the situation became tense in Imphal following reports of the arrest of Arambai Tenggol leader Kanan Singh.
Meanwhile, the Arambai Tenggol has officially suspended the 10-day bandh on the third day of the agition that was launched to protest the arrest of its leader Asem Kanan Singh. The 10-day bandh called by Arambai Tenggol was enforced primarily in the valley districts of Manipur- Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching, while it was not observed in the hill districts of the state.
