Imphal: The flood situation in Manipur worsened on Wednesday as more areas in the valley submerged under water, affecting thousands of people. However, no death has been reported so far.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from the flood affected areas as personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Manipur Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire service, security forces and local volunteers swung into action to rescue those who were affected by flash flood.

A report said that personnel of state fire service have so far rescued more than 200 people including women and children who were caught by the flood in Kairang and Lairikyengbam areas of Imphal East.
Overflowing of Imphal river and other rivers inundated several low lying areas across Imphal West and Imphal East districts including the state capital worsened the flood situation today.
Bank of Imphal river, the major river passing through the city, breached at various places resulting in the flooding of the state capital and its outskirts with the most affected area being Heingang assembly constituency, the home constituency of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh.

The breach of the bank of the Imphal river at some places coupled with overflowing of other rivers like the Nambul worsened the flood situation in these areas where the people experienced flash floods due to waterlogging triggered by incessant downpour in the last three days.
Business transactions in most of the major markets in Imphal including Khwairamband Keithel have been affected after the places were submerged inundated by the flood water coming from the breach of the bank of Imphal River.
With the water continuing to flow in these breached banks, more areas were inundating till the time of filing this report.
Besides, overflow of the rivers also flooded many areas in other valley districts like Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur.

Chief minister N Biren Singh who inspected some flooded areas including breached banks of Imphal River, in a post on internet, wrote that due to water breaches in several river banks, many lives including cattle have been seriously affected.
All concerned authorities of the state government, security personnel, NDRF and local volunteers are working tirelessly to ensure safety and provide assistance to everyone affected.
Those who got stranded in severely affected areas are being relocated to safe places using boats, he wrote.
“We are closely monitoring the water breach at North AOC now,” he wrote after inspection of the situation at Kangla fort where breach of the Imphal river bank has inundated the fort.

“State security forces, officials from the water resources department and volunteers are joining hands to tackle the issue. I urge all to remain calm and not to panic,” he further wrote.
The incessant triggered by Cyclone Remal also affected various parts of hill districts of Manipur, particularly in Noney, Tamenglong, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul and Churachandpur districts.
In the Senapati district, the incessant downpour submerged many residential houses near rivers and streams within the district headquarters. The Senapati River, which flows through the district headquarters, is flowing above the danger level, a report said.

Due to the incessant rain and flooding caused by Cyclone Remal over the past few days has significantly affected power supply in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has resulted in electrical faults at various locations, including fallen poles and snapped lines, said a press note from Manipur State Power Company, Limited (MSPCL) on Wednesday.
The restoration work has commenced. However, it is anticipated that it will take a few more days to fully restore power supply.
