IMPHAL: The Government of Manipur on Saturday said it has taken note of all demands put forward by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), assuring that action has already begun on several key issues, while others require careful deliberation due to their “delicate nature.”
Addressing a press conference at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that investigations into the Tronglaobi incident and concerns surrounding internally displaced persons (IDPs) are actively underway.
The Chief Minister informed that a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), led by an Inspector General-rank officer, visited the Tronglaobi site earlier in the day as part of the ongoing probe. He added that he remains in constant communication with the investigating team and is closely monitoring developments.
On the issue of arrests, the government said no fixed timeline can be provided but assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible at the earliest.
The press briefing was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, along with other ministers and MLAs.
Meanwhile, tension marked a mass protest rally held earlier in the day, where Mayanglambam Somorjit, former president of the Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), was allegedly assaulted by a section of the public. Reports said that participants, expressing dissatisfaction with the COCOMI leadership, turned aggressive during the demonstration.

Somorjit, who was reportedly not directly linked to the issue, was severely beaten and later admitted to Raj Medicity. Hospital sources confirmed that he remains in critical condition.
