Imphal: The role of the central government in the ongoing violence was questioned during the 23rd Great June Uprising Unity Day commemoration in Imphal today.
A large number of people from all walks of life turned up at Kekrupat in Imphal to pay homage to those who died in the movement for the protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur 23 years ago.

Eighteen people lost their lives in indiscriminate firing by security force personnel while controlling a massive violent agitation triggered on June 18, 2001, after the ceasefire between the centre and the NSCN-IM was declared “without territorial limits”.
The day has been observed as “Great June Uprising Unity Day” remembering the greatest-ever mass uprising for the protection of the territorial integrity of Manipur under the aegis of the United Committee Manipur (UCM) and the All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO).

Talking to the reporters at the site today, AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang questioned the role of the central government in the ongoing violence in the state.
He alleged that the ongoing crisis is a part of the attempts to break the territorial integrity of Manipur. He also alleged that the central security agencies are extending help to the forces who are trying to disintegrate the state.
While alleging that the centre has been trying to break Manipur apart, he said the government at the centre is backing the Kukis to disintegrate Manipur.

“Manipur territorial integrity will never be able to be broken up by any force so long as the people of all sections of the society stand united”, Nando asserted.
Also speaking on the occasion, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam said that so far as the indigenous communities residing in the state stand united no force can disintegrate Manipur.

He insisted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah must commit to implementing into work what he had said while reminding his remark to end the crisis in Manipur after the elections.
