Ukhrul: The Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN) held a condolence service for Captain R.S. Winson of the Naga Army from Ngainga village at TNL Hall, Ukhrul, on Monday.

According to sources, Captain R.S. Winson was ambushed and killed on June 15, 2024, at around 6:30 p.m. at Kettha, Myanmar, by the KNA (B). Kettha is about half a kilometer from Homlin and is separated only by the bridge over the Chindwin River. He was shot in the back, with the bullet passing through the right side of his chest from back to front.

Speaking at the condolence service, his elder brother Wungsin R. Shimray stated, “He wholeheartedly dedicated and sacrificed his life for the cause of the Naga Nation, and we are comforted by that thought.”

A member of Ngainga Sakrumlong, Ukhrul, stated, “Since 1966, Ngainga village has repeatedly suffered at the hands of adversaries. Captain R.S. Winson is gone, but hundreds of Ngainga youth will rise up for the greater cause.”

Vice President of TNL, R.S. Jollyson, while delivering the condolence message, stated, “There is no greater sacrifice than to lay down one’s life for the Naga Nation. He has shown his true colors as a Naga soldier. It is time for us to realize and stand up for the Naga cause.”

CAO of WTR, W. Sayai, stated, “The situation at the border has not been good since last year. KNA (B) has killed four Naga Army soldiers to date. Their sacrifice will not be in vain. The time has come to rise against this injustice. The Naga people have been very tolerant with the refugees at the border, providing basic amenities on humanitarian grounds. However, it is indeed a very sad situation to see KNA (B) targeting the Naga Army. We can no longer be indifferent to what is happening at the Indo-Myanmar border.”

The office of the General Headquarters of the Naga Army, in their condolence message, stated, “Captain R.S. Winson, son of R.S. Sayang of Ngainga village, made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield. He laid down his life in the service of our nation, upholding the highest values of courage, duty, and honor. R.S. Winson enrolled in the Naga Army on August 19, 1994, and subsequently served the Naga Nation with dedication, sincerity, and loyalty until he breathed his last at the hands of adversaries while on routine duty with the Central National Security Command East, NSCN, GPRN.”

In recognition of his service to the Naga Nation, Lieutenant R.S. Winson was posthumously bestowed the rank of Captain on June 17, 2024, by the General Headquarters, Naga Army. The Naga Army, along with the Longvibu, extends heartfelt condolences to the family.

Hundreds of people attended the condolence service held at TNL Hall to pay their last respects to the departed soul. Later, his mortal remains were taken to his village for burial.
