Manipur journalist succumbs to Covid-19

COVID-19 has claimed the life of another journalist in Manipur on Sunday. 

Saikhom Shantikumar (51), who worked as sub-editor of Ireibak, a daily newspaper based in Imphal, succumbed to COVID-19 related complications at a hospital in Chandigarh where he was treated for other ailment on Sunday morning, reports said.

Saikhom Shantikumar, who hailed from Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai of Imphal East was treated at PGI hospital in Chandigarh since January 28 this year for kidney ailment, breathed his last  around 11.30 am. He is survived by his wife and a son and a daughter, the reports added.

He was diagnosed with the coronavirus a few days ago while being treated in the hospital, the reports further said.

Meanwhile, All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) condoled the demise of the senior journalist by observing a two-minute silence at Manipur Press Club, Imphal. 
The union further shared the shock and pain suffered by the family of the deceased journalist.

It can be mentioned that a few days ago, COVID-19 had claimed the life of veteran journalist Sagolshem Hemant (65), former president of the AMWJU. He died due to COVID-19 related complications at a hospital in Imphal on May 30.
