NPF raises concern over rise of Covid-19 in Nagaland, asks PDA govt to help meet people’s needs

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed “deep concern” over the health and economic welfare of the people. As the impact of the continuous lock down throughout the state (of Nagaland) has severely affected the poorer section of the society in terms of their two square meals a day, hence the party asks the government what programmes and initiatives it had taken so far in addressing these issues”, the NPF said in a statement. It then alleged that the prices of essential commodities are skyrocketing and so far the government authority has remained silent to meet the basic rights of the people.

The NPF then said the party is equally concerned over the rise of Covid-19 daily cases which is now slowly transmitting towards the rural areas and unless the government seriously addresses the economic problem of the people, soon it may accounted to hunger dead soon.

Nevertheless, the NPF said the Covid-19 virus scare is one of the biggest threats in the entire world at the moment but no government can let its people go hungry as the earning for many sections of the society had been by paralyzed for months due to lock down.

Therefore, the NPF strongly demanded the PDA government in Nagaland to immediately address the plight of the people. “If not then “starvation war” will destroy the whole state.

Meanwhile, the party categorically reiterated the demand raised by its legislature wing that the government set up an inquiry into the government’s alleged financial management during the pandemic. “The party stands its demand that a detailed white paper on all the funds received and expenditures incurred thereof from 2020-21 to 2021-22 along with all relevant methodology of grants, processes of procurement, disbursement criteria be published,” it added.

The NPF then reminded the government of the day to properly sensitize the importance of the Covid-19 vaccine and at the meantime make sufficient availability of the vaccine to its people.
