Manipur Police penalises 285 COVID-19 SOP violators

In their continuing drive against COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions in Manipur, the police on Sunday penalised 285 persons and released them after slapping a fine of Rs 99,050 altogether.

Including the 285 persons, the police have so far penalised 1,39,031 violators and detained 51,850 vehicles and collected together Rs 1,99,02,950 as fine till date.

The police started its crackdown on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the state government and the state disaster management authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic since March 24, 2020, the day the Centre imposed a nationwide lockdown.

Apart from penalising those who failed to wear face masks, to maintain social distancing, spitting at public places, the police are detaining those who came out defying curfew in the seven districts.

The Police department warned that those who violate the guidelines and restrictions will be dealt with by strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
