Ukhrul: A doctored audio clip, purportedly featuring the voice of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, has been circulating on social media, which the state government has condemned as a “malicious attempt” by certain sections to incite communal violence.

The state government stated that an audio recording, falsely claiming to be that of the Chief Minister of Manipur, was being circulated on social media platforms.

“This doctored audio is a malicious attempt by certain sections to incite communal violence or to derail the peace process that has been initiated at multiple levels,” the government said.

It further stated that social media analysis indicates that a coordinated and targeted campaign is underway, with numerous X (formerly Twitter) accounts sharing the audio with similar captions. A screenshot was provided, offering a snapshot of this orchestrated effort.

“The Manipur Police are actively investigating the matter to uncover the origins of this defamatory campaign,” the statement said, adding that legal action will be taken against all individuals and organizations involved in this conspiracy.

The statement also urged the public to remain vigilant and refrain from sharing unverified information.

“The restoration of peace and harmony among communities is of utmost importance at this juncture, and the state government will not tolerate any actions that threaten to disrupt the peace process,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) general headquarters, in a statement, claimed that the student body has come into possession of a deeply disturbing audio recording in which CM Biren Singh is allegedly heard boasting in a closed-door meeting with his associates that he initiated the war against the Kuki-Zo people to save “Meitei civilization.”

The KSO further stated that the audio recording contains several incriminating statements made by the Chief Minister and claimed that Singh explicitly stated that he used both legal and questionable means to seize Kuki-Zo lands.

The organization also claimed that CM Biren boasted about ordering the Manipur police commandos and other forces to torture and kill Kuki-Zo people and destroy their villages. It alleged that he admitted to having begun planning the current violence 10-15 years ago, during his tenure as an MLA.
