Manipur on Friday reported the highest ever single-day surge of COVID-19 with 600 new infections to push the overall tally of COVID-19 infections to 34,333.
The active cases of the disease surpassed the 3500-mark and the death toll also increased to 449 with two new fatalities, according to the state Health department’s latest report updated today at 5 pm.
As only 83 patients were discharged upon recoveries on Friday, the recovery tally stood at 30,378 and the recovery rate dropped further to 88.48% against previous day’s 89.80%.
The update report of the state Health department showed detection of 600 fresh positive cases while testing 3,421 samples in the past 24 hours, ending May 7 at 5 pm.
A total of 6,31,277 samples have been tested in the state so far.
Of the 600 fresh positive cases, 24 were Central security personnel and among the 576 from the general populaces, 269 were females.
The positive cases from the general population were 166 from Imphal East district, 208 from Imphal West district, 40 from Thoubal district, 18 from Kakching, 22 from Ukhrul, 34 from Churachandpur, seven from Chandel, 19 from Tamenglong, 17 from Senapati, three from Kangpokpi, 2 from Kamjong, six from Noney and one from Tengnoupal district.
In the past 24 hours, two persons -a 47-year-old man from Kakching district and a 65-year-old woman from Imphal East – succumbed to the viral disease, taking the fatality toll to 449.
A total of 83 patients were discharged upon recovery today, taking the total number of recoveries to 30,378. The number of active cases also rose to 3505 including 176 CAPF personnel.
The state health department said that a total of 762 D-type oxygen cylinders and 192 B-type oxygen cylinders were made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state.
The total number of people so far vaccinated in the state also increased to 25,1099.
