Imphal, April 22: In a historic cultural milestone, Manipur will witness its inaugural classical ballet performance, the first-ever such event scheduled for May 17, 2025. The event, which will be held at the JNIMS Auditorium in Imphal, marks a pivotal moment in Manipur’s evolving artistic landscape, blending international finesse with local ambition.

The 750-seat venue is expected to be filled with art lovers and cultural dignitaries as classical ballet graces the stage for the very first time. Organizers describe the event as more than a performance—it is a cultural declaration and a bold leap toward integrating global art forms into the region’s rich tapestry of tradition.

Gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour will be Galina Lyakhova, acclaimed Director of the Russian Classical Ballet in New Delhi. A revered figure in the world of ballet, Lyakhova will be accompanied by one of her distinguished students, who will also perform—offering audiences a rare glimpse into the refined discipline and expressive power of classical ballet.

The evening will also welcome Chief Guest G. Dharmadas Sharma, Deputy Director of Arts and Culture, Manipur, whose presence underscores the state government’s growing commitment to nurturing diverse forms of artistic expression.

“This show is not just a performance—it is a declaration. A declaration that Manipur is rising as a center of refined artistic education, where passionate students are now being trained in one of the most disciplined and graceful art forms in the world. This event is poised to inspire a new generation of dancers, dreamers, and cultural ambassadors who will represent Manipur with pride on national and international stages in the coming future,” said Zingrin Muivah of the Russian Ballet Academy, Imphal.

With the fusion of Eastern spirit and Western classical tradition, the event is expected to serve as a catalyst for a new wave of cultural exploration in the state, inspiring aspiring dancers and elevating Manipur’s status on the national cultural map.
