New Delhi: A collective Manipur hills tribal student unions in Delhi today took to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and staged a peaceful sit-in-protest over the non tabling of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) recommended ADC Bill 2021 in the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 20 and in support of HAC.

The sit-in-protest was attended by Dr Lorho S Pfoze, Member of Parliament outer Manipur, Dr Robert Haokip, and Advocate Worso Zimik and tribal student unions of Delhi.

A memorandum in this regard will be submitted tomorrow to the president of India Ram Nath Kovind, sources informed.

The said memorandum will urge the president for his kind intervention with respect to the hill areas of Manipur under the directives of Article 371 vis a vis, the Manipur Legislative Assembly (Hill Areas Committee) Order, 1972 of the Indian Constitution.

“Manipur government, not only denied tabling ADC Bill 2021 but accused the Hill Areas Committee of trying to divide the state. Manipur tribal rights, as enshrined under the Indian Constitution and its provisions cannot be meddled and politicised by the State government. The delay tactics in tabling ADC Bill 2021 in the State assembly is deplorable. It is deliberately depriving the tribals of Manipur for bringing tangible developmental projects and better administration of the hill areas,” Hansing Ngangzoyo Ahungshi, president Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi said.
