Imphal: Two personnel of the police commandos got injured today as security forces continued operations to flush out militants allegedly behind the attacks at villages in the periphery of the valley in Manipur since the outbreak of the violence on May 3.
Reports said that the two personnel sustained injuries in an operation at Tangjeng Khunjao in Kakching district bordering Chandel district.

Suspected militants armed with sophisticated weapons have been occupying the Meitei village in the foothills after they took control of the village after setting ablaze all the houses of the village a few days ago, police said.
The Meitei village is surrounded by Kuki villages on three sides and the suspected militants used to attack the village with guns since the eruption of the violent conflict, the police also said.
After taking control of the village, the militants occupied the village by erecting temporary bunkers at the entry points of the village.

By camping in the village, the suspected militants used to attack villages like Napat of Bishnupur district and Meitei villages in Sugnu areas with guns and bombs, killing and injuring dozens of villages, the police also said.
In order to flush out the militants, a combined team of state police commandos, Manipur Rifles, IRB and BSF launched an operation in the area from last night and the gunfight continued till late today evening.
In the gunfight, two police commando personnel were injured. Some militants were also believed to have been injured.

The two injured police commando personnel have been rushed to hospitals in Imphal, reports said.
The reports added that with the militants started retreating from the area, the security forces destroyed many bunkers erected by the militants.
The security forces are likely to flush out the militants completely by tonight as they have advanced near the Tangjeng Khunjao.
