Manipur Violence: Former CM Ibobi says dialogue is the best way to end conflict

Imphal: Congress leader and former chief minister of Manipur O Ibobi Singh said the best way to end the conflict is holding dialogue.

The former three time chief minister was referring to the ethnic conflict unfolding in the state while talking to reporters on the sideline of the observance of the 106th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi which the nation observed as Quami Ekta Diwas at Congress Bhavan here today.

The event was marked by offering a floral tribute to the portrait of the first female Prime Minister of India. Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra, former chief minister O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam were among members and workers of the MPCC who attended the occasion.

They also took a pledge to follow the footsteps of the former Prime Minister to safeguard national integrity.

The former chief minister said that Indira Gandhi lost her life while fighting against disintegration of India.

“She had fought boldly against those who did not trust the unity of India”, Ibobi said.

The Congress leader further said that it is time for the people of Manipur to stand united courageously against any force that is trying to disintegrate the state.

He said that the issues in the fore of the state should be resolved through dialogue. “One should keep in mind that there is no place for violence in a democratic country like India. All issues must be resolved through dialogue,” he added.

Ibobi then said that if there is a problem, there should be a solution. The solution is to come through talks. Those indulging in violence should come forward for holding dialogue to resolve the issue, he also stated.
