Ukhrul: An Impact News cameraperson, L. Kabichandra, sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh during a firing incident at Thamnapokpi in Imphal East District earlier today. The incident reportedly involved armed Kuki militants.
Kabichandra was immediately rushed to Raj Medicity Hospital in North AOC, Imphal, for urgent medical treatment. Further details about the incident are awaited.

According to reports from valley-based news outlets, Central Security Forces have been accused of blocking the movement of Manipur Police amid what is described as a renewed offensive by Kuki militants targeting several Meitei/Meetei villages since Christmas Eve. Allegations suggest that the Central Security Forces have not taken equivalent countermeasures against these offensives coming from the hill ranges.
Two individuals, including a commando personnel identified as K. Haridas (37), sustained injuries on Friday. Haridas has been admitted to JNIMS Hospital for treatment.

Ukhrul Times has learnt that heavy firing continues unabated in the foothills on Saturday morning in and around the areas of Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi in Imphal East. Several civilians, including elderly and children have been rescued by the Manipur Police in the adjoining Yaingangpokpi bazaar, leading towards Ukhrul to Imphal National Highway.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has strongly condemed the indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi.
N Biren Sing said that the firing has left civilians and security personnel injured, authorities have described the attack as cowardly and unprovoked. “This cowardly and unprovoked attack on innocent lives is an assault on peace and harmony. Adequate security personnel have been rushed to the affected areas. The injured are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the government calls for calm and unity in the face of such challenges. Central forces and state police should have proper coordination and understanding when dealing with such situations,” said N Biren singh.
Their is a growing perception among civilians about the lack of coordination and understanding between the Central Forces and Manipur State government apparatus and its agencies in handling such situations effectively.
