Imphal: Manipuri Meira Paibis has accused the Assam Rifles and other paramilitary forces engaged in operations in the sensitive parts of Manipur saying that they are not sincere enough in their day-to-day handling of the law and order situation to bringing normalcy in violence-hit state.

The Meira Paibis in defense to news of obstruction caused by them gave their side of the statement speaking to Ukhrul Times correspondent Monday night. Manipuri Meira Paibis said they have no objection in the functioning of security forces in various ground operations in the state. However it maintained that they suspect each vehicles and individuals carry weapons. “We have information that these Assam Rifles vehicles are transporting weapons for the Kuki militants,” the Meira Paibis accused. The Meira Paibis went further in accusing the Assam Rifles that not only weapons, but the AR is “aiding the militants in providing food, clothing and shelter. This is why we are here to continuously check vehicles.”

The Meira Paibis also warned that the Indian government or the United Nations will not be able to stop if the prevailing ethnic conflict spirals into a full blown ethnic war. “If Narendra Modi prefers suffering of the people, we rather all die together. We will not allow the break up of Manipur state. We stand for the territorial integrity of the state,” said a Meira Paibi.
“Block and checking of all vehicles passing through National Highway-2, Tiddim Road by the local Meirab Paibis is carried out day and night ever since the ethic conflict erupted. It will remain so, as it is, until the conflict is resolved,” said one of them.

Another local Meira Paibi said, “We are doing what the security forces are unable to do, in checking vehicles to maintain peace and harmony.”
The Union Government has sent thousands of Indian Armed Forces to our state to maintain peace, however, instead of sincerely working for all the people hit by the conflict, they [security forces] are working in tandem with the Kuki militants. This is the reason why the Maira Paibis are out on the road checking vehicles to ensure if these vehicles are used to transport weapons to arm the militants, said another local Meira Paibi in the valley.
