KAMJONG: A mass sapling plantation drive was held today at Ashang Khullen village in Kamjong District, Manipur. The event was organized by environmental and climate activist Jojo Robertson as part of his campaign to raise awareness about environmental and climate issues.

The drive lasted from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM and followed an environmental awareness campaign on April 26, 2026, during which Robertson promised to provide saplings to the villagers. Today, approximately 400 saplings, supplied by the Kasom Khullen Range Officer under the Kamjong Forest Division, were planted. Villagers led by headman Chuimatai Ragui and the local pastor, Lesing Shanglai, participated in the plantation drive despite the rainy weather.

While interacting with the villagers, Jojo Robertson expressed his gratitude for their efforts and enthusiasm in conserving local flora and fauna. The villagers had already prepared the site for the plantation drive. He emphasized the importance of afforestation, the sustainable use of forest resources—including medicinal plants—and the planting of fruit-bearing trees to support wildlife and maintain a healthy ecosystem.

Further, Robertson informed the villagers about various plant species and their benefits, encouraging them to establish a specific forest area as a protected zone to conserve both plants and animals. He assured them that he would provide more saplings in the future. He encouraged them to produce a large quantity of saplings from forest seeds for commercial use while also assuring them of training.
