Meghalaya CM Assures Justice in 4-Year-Old Girl’s Murder Case

Shillong, September 16: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured that the perpetrators involved in the recent “murder” of a four-year-old girl at Nongrah Nonglum in Meghalaya will soon be brought to book.

Speaking to media persons today, Sangma extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased minor and expressed confidence in the police investigation, stating that the authorities are working overtime to crack the case.

“My deepest condolences to the family, as what happened was completely not correct,” Sangma said.

Assuring that the police are making steady progress, the chief minister stated, “I am told by the deputy chief minister that they have made very good progress in the entire inquiry. I will not be able to speak about that right now because it is still in the investigation stage, but the deputy chief minister has informed me that the investigation is at a very advanced stage and very soon we should be able to crack this case.”

Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai was found missing from her home in Nongrah Nonglum on Sunday morning. Her body was discovered submerged in a waterlogged pit inside an under-construction house near her residence on Monday morning.

A Special Investigation Team has been formed by the East Khasi Hills police to probe the case. The SIT is headed by SP (City) Herbert Kharkongor, under the overall supervision of the SP, East Khasi Hills district.

The police are examining witnesses and gathering evidence to identify the culprit or culprits responsible for the heinous crime.
