Meghalaya political drama ends: UDP and PDF extend support to Conrad Sangma’s NPP

Shillong: The United Democratic Party (UDP) and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) have extended support to Conrad K Sangma’s National People’s Party on Sunday.

UDP in the just concluded Meghalaya assembly polls garnered 11 seats while PDF won two seats.

The National People’s Party which won 26 seats, with its allies made up of two BJP, two from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and two Independents already had 32 members to form the government.

With the support of UDP and PDF the numbers now stands at 45.

Conrad K Sangma, the chief minister designate and the national chief of NPP took to twitter and shared photos of support, along with UDP and PDF members late Sunday.

“Thank you UDP and PDF for coming forward to join the NPP to form the Government. The strong support from homegrown political parties will further strengthen us to serve Meghalaya and its people,” Conrad Sangma tweeted.

Meanwhile, prime minister Narendra Modi will attend swearing-in-ceremonies of the new governments in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura. The swearing in for Meghalya and Nagaland is scheduled for March 7, while in Tripura, it will be held on March 8.
