Imphal: In a statement released today, the Meitei Alliance strongly condemned the incidences of violence perpetrated by Kuki miscreants in Manipur’s Churachandpur District on the evening of Thursday, 15 February 2024.

“Kuki miscreants under the dictate of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum stormed government offices and committed reprehensible threats against the Superintendent of Police, Shivanand Surve and Deputy Commissioner, S. Dharun. They raised coercive demands and served intimidating threats of an ultimatum to revoke the suspension of a Kuki policeman allegedly responsible for collusion with armed terrorists. They issued a quit notice to the SP and DC to leave Churachandpur within 24 hours. They also vandalized and set ablaze government vehicles and offices and pulled down the Indian national flag,” it sad.

“All these diabolical terrorist acts expose a flagrant disregard for the Fundamental Duty to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, and the National Flag, a deliberate attack on the rule of law and an affront to the principles of justice. These acts are utterly deplorable and have no place in a civilized society. These not only undermine the collective fabric of the country but also jeopardize the safety and well-being of the innocent people.

The citizens of India must stand united against such terrorist intimidation or coercion directed towards our law enforcement officials. Police officials, like SP Shivanand Surve, who dedicate their lives to upholding and ensuring the rule of law and the safety of the people. SP Surve has been awarded the Best Electoral Practice Award by the President and has been continuously fighting against illicit drugs. Threatening law enforcement officials or pressuring them to act under the dictate of unruly mobs and terrorists is an attack on the very foundations of this democratic country.

Democracy demands the citizens to respect and uphold the due process of law. Any genuine grievance or concern must be raised through peaceful and lawful means and processes,” the statement said.

Furthermore, it also added saying, “We call upon the authorities to thoroughly investigate these incidents and to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Justice must prevail, and those who seek to undermine it must be brought to justice. Our thoughts are with the threatened officers and all the law enforcement officials who are serving the people with integrity and dedication despite facing all such terrorist challenges.”
