Meitei villagers hand over Kuki drug peddler to police

Imphal: A miscreant was apprehended with two soap cases containing suspected heroin powder in the vicinity of Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts on Wednesday. The arrested individual is identified as 34-year-old Jangkholal Khongsai, son of the late Thongkhai from Kotlen in Kangpokpi district.

Local village volunteers in the area apprehended him as he was coming down from a hilltop yesterday afternoon. They safely escorted him to Kakching district’s Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai and then handed him over to Meira Paibi women in the area. Subsequently, a police team led by Kakching district Police’s Additional SP (Operation) S Binoy and Additional SP Law & Order Romendro took custody of the arrested individual along with the seized items later in the evening.

A case has been registered against the individual at Hiyanglam police station for further legal action.
