Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between Naga and Kuki-Zo CSOs

Senapati, November 21: In response to recent misunderstandings between the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) and the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), an emergency meeting was convened on Thursday at the NPO office.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was made and entered into on November 21, 2024, by and between the Naga People’s Organization (NPO), Senapati, and the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, hereafter referred to collectively as the “Parties.”

Whereas the First Party (NPO) and the Second Party (CoTU) aim to collaborate to achieve shared goals and maintain, safeguard, and promote a genuine atmosphere of peace and cooperation between the two communities.

Terms of agreement between the two parties included that there will be No Harassment of Naga commuters in Kuki dominated areas, No Taxes to be imposed on Senapati Naga trucks, traders, commercial goods or commuters. However, if any issue arises related to taxation, CoTU will intervene and take full responsibility to resolve it. Any violations of the agreement will be addressed in accordance with the severity of the offence, the MoU read.

The MoU signed by H. Kuba Peter, President, NPO and M. John, General Secretary, NPO; Thanglen Kipgen, Chairman, CoTU and Lamminlun Singsit, Secretary, CoTU also said the agreement is binding and will be enforced by all concerned parties.
