UKHRUL: Indiscriminate firing by unidentified miscreants at Kanglatongbi, Imphal West around midnight on Thursday has triggered widespread fear and panic among residents of the area and its adjoining localities.

Long regarded as a peaceful region marked by communal harmony and strong social bonds among diverse communities, the Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat expresses being deeply shaken by the incident. Residents have strongly denounced the act, calling it a grave disruption to the tranquility of an otherwise peace-loving area.

According to reports, stray bullets struck multiple structures, with one bullet allegedly piercing a residential house in Lower Makhan. The incident has heightened anxiety among locals, particularly children and the elderly, who remain vulnerable to such sudden acts of violence.

The Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat noted that the firing is not viewed as an isolated case since similar incidents have been reported in the past. Repeated occurrences of such nature have raised serious concerns about public safety and the fragile peace in the region. Citizens have appealed to those responsible to immediately cease such activities that instill fear and disrupt normal life.

Kanglatongbi is also home to several educational institutions and student hostels, where students from remote areas reside in pursuit of their education. Incidents like these not only compromise their safety but also risk affecting their academic focus and future prospects, the Gram Panchayat added.
