MLA Khashim Vashum Inaugurates 500 capacity PSG Oxygen Plant of CHC Somdal

The 500 PSG oxygen plant (PM CARES) was constructed by Manipur Police Housing Construction Limited at the estimated cost of 84 lakh; Dr H Thotnimla, medical officer, CHC Somdal said that including her there are nine staff in the centre.

Chingai sitting MLA Khashim Vashum inaugurated 500 capacity PSG oxygen plant of Community Health Centre, Somdal on Thursday. Moderated by Ramshing Muivah, the program was attended by assistant commissioner Ukhrul, Kachamthai Gangmei, CMO Ukhrul Dr Kapangring, DIO Ukhrul Jeetra, former ADC member Thanchipem Jagoi, Khayinghor, well wishers, and villagers.

Speaking at the occasion, Chingai AC MLA, Khashim stated that this life saving 500 capacity PSG oxygen plant would hugely benefit the people of LM block.

Stating that health sector is one of his topmost priority, Vashum assured to complete the CHC, Somdal building before the end of his tenure while urging Somdal villagers to maintain the plant with care.

He also assured to look into staff shortages facing the CHC, and urged the existing staff to continue to work with dedication.

The 500 PSG oxygen plant (PM CARES) was constructed by Manipur Police Housing Construction Limited at the estimated cost of 84 lakh.

He thanked DC Ukhrul and CMO Ukhrul for making this plant project a grand success.

“I salute the frontline workers especially the district administration, district health workers, all rank and file of police department, CSOs for the relentless public services they had rendered during the public health crisis,” said Khashim.

It may be recalled that Community Health Centre, Somdal foundation stone was laid in 2018 by minister JayantaKumar Singh, Health and Family Welfare minister in the presence of 45-Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum.

Assistant Commisioner Kachamthai Gangmei who is also the SDO of Jessami block stated that he never thought that Covid pandemic would reached our place.

Attended as the guest of honour, Gangmei thanked MLA Khashim for his dedicated support. He said Chingai AC reported around 10,000 returnees and had a tough time handling the mass exodus triggered by the Covid pandemic. Amid difficulties we managed to put every returnees in the quarantined centres through his help and support.

Gangmei has also urged district CSOs, Church leaders, village leaders to continue to advocate and spread awareness to the villagers on Covid vaccination and its benefits so that the district is safe from the virus.

Speaking at the event, CMO district hospital Ukhrul, Dr Kapangring who attended as the presiding guest exuded confidence that the newly inaugurated oxygen plant at CHC Somdal would greatly benefit the block people. “This is a blessing for Somdal village and the area people.”

CMO also lauded Dr Thotnimla medical officer CHC Somdal and her staffs for their dedication amid staff crunch, and thanked MLA Khashim for making available one ambulance for CHC Somdal.

Commenting on Covid situation, he said that out of the 87,633 eligible population of the district, only around 20 to 23 per cent have taken the first jab.

He also appealed the district populace to get the Covid jab before it is too late as the third wave is looming large. If third wave worsens, people who haven’t taken the jab would be the worst affected. Getting the jab would ensure better protection and safety. However it is up to the people to decide, we don’t force anyone to take the jab. The choice is theirs.

Asserting that people fear to get Covid jab thinking that it would affect their health, he clarified that if Covid shot cause death, health workers would be the first casualty as we were the first to receive the jab he said and urged people not to fear.

He further stated that if people don’t believe in Covid vaccine, they should also stop trusting other vaccines. After due research, the vaccine was administered as a preventive measure against the virus.

Speaking at the sidelines of the inauguration program, Dr H Thotnimla, medical officer, CHC Somdal said that including her there are nine staff in the centre.

She said the centre has OPD, inpatient services, emergencies services, maternal and child services and laboratory services besides other facilities.

Delivering vote of thanks Dr Thotnimla who is the medical officer of CHC Somdal expressed his special gratitude to PM Modi, CM Biren, MLA Khashim, district administration Ukhrul, CMO Ukhrul and villagers for making this PSG oxygen inauguration a successful one.

Wungpam Khamrang, associate Pastor Somdal Baptist Church pronounced the opening prayer while Rev Aping Khamrang invoked the closing prayer.
