MLA Losii Dikho Clarifies NEFTU Statement on NH-2 Bypass Road

Senapati, July 5: While acknowledging the efforts of NEFTU, MDA, the Senapati District Truck Owners’ Association, and other organisations in repairing the bypass road, MLA Losii Dikho has emphasized that the Works Department under the Government of Manipur played a crucial role in providing funds and necessary assistance for immediate repairs.

According to the MLA, “As the local representative, I was actively involved in ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to Manipur and facilitated the Public Works Department (PWD) in executing the work on the 9 km stretch from Mao to Kidima in the Nagaland sector.” After conducting two personal surveys of the bypass route in June, Dikho met with Chief Secretary P.K. Singh, who intervened to initiate the repair works.

MLA Dikho credited the continuous efforts of the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Works), and Chief Engineer, PWD, for promptly starting the technical and groundwork on the Manipur side. However, he urged NEFTU to correct its media statement, which misquoted the Principal Secretary’s press release and unfairly portrayed the PWD department.

The MLA has appreciated the involvement of various stakeholders, including the Nagaland Chief Minister, the Government of Manipur, PWD officials, and different associations in assisting with the repair works. He also acknowledged the Manipur Government’s efforts under the Governor’s administration to restore the bypass road and noted that the Nagaland Government, with the Chief Minister’s approval, is still actively working on the said project to ensure uninterrupted transportation of essential goods to Manipur.

The Constitution of India, which serves as the supreme law of the land, guarantees to every citizen the freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. This includes not only the right to profess and practice one’s beliefs but also the right to refrain from participating in practices that may conflict with those beliefs. This distinction is crucial. Freedom is not merely about participation—it is equally about the choice not to participate.
