Mount Everest College Hosts Freshers’ Day 2026 and Launches Seva Sankalp Utsav in Senapati

SENAPATI: Mount Everest College (Autonomous), celebrated its Freshers’ Day cum Seva Sankalp Utsav – Inaugural Program on Thursday under the theme, “Creating the future & shine for it” at the College Auditorium Hall on Thursday.

The event was graced by Senapati Deputy Commissioner, Dharun Kumar, IAS as the chief guest and P.P. Ronald, MCS, Project Director, DRDA, Senapati & i/c SDO, Senapati headquarters as the guest of honour, organised by the Cultural Committee, Senior students & IQAC, MEC (A) in collaboration with District Administration, Senapati. Staff and students attended the program in traditional attire and formal college uniform respectively.


The function began with the College Anthem “The Everestians” by Music Club, Invocation by SP Simeon, Chaplain, MEC (A), followed by Welcome Address by Dr. (h.c.) Gonmei Meithuanlungpou, Vice Principal, MEC (A).


In her Uplifting Talk, Dr. Laishram Vijaya Devi, Principal, MEC (A) warmly welcomed the freshers and congratulated them on beginning their academic journey. She urged the students to dream big, maintain discipline, uphold the values of the college, and actively participate in academic and co-curricular activities.

Additionally, the chief guest formally inaugurated the Seva Sankalp Utsav in Senapati District during the program. The month-long observance, being held across the nation from 17th September to 2nd October coinciding with the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims at promoting the spirit of Seva – selfless service, cleanliness, social welfare and citizen participation for nation-building. On the occasion, the chief guest declared the district-level launch of the campaign and called upon students, institutions and the general public to actively take part in various Seva activities to be organized in the district.


In his address, Kumar S, appreciated the college for organizing the program in collaboration with the District Administration. He spoke on the importance of education in shaping the future, encouraged the freshers to focus on hard work, character building and public service, and called upon the youth to contribute towards a developed India as part of Seva Sankalp. The guest of honour, also delivered a speech motivating the students to be an active agent of change.


The major attraction of the day was the Miss and Mr. Freshers’ contest conducted in four rounds – (i) Freshers in Traditional Attire, (ii) Formal Introduction, (iii) The Grand Reveal: Talent Round and (iv) Question & Answer Round. After a highly competitive and entertaining contest judged by a distinguished panel, including Dinthaorei of the Department of Zoology and Ruth Ringkangmai of the Department of Physics were crowned as Mr. and Miss Freshe,r 2026 amidst loud applause from the audience.


The program was enlivened by a colourful array of cultural performances including Poumai Cultural Dance, entertaining and creative drama, dances and musical performances by the students.


The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Kezia Newmai, B.A. 1st Semester, followed by the National Anthem by the Music Club and Closing Prayer by S Veipu Biimai, Students’ Facilitator, MEC (A).
