MPCC Observes Anti-Terrorism Day; Pays Tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on 33rd Death Anniversary

Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday observed “Anti-Terrorism Day” to commemorate the 33rd death anniversary of the former prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi in Imphal.

Offering floral tributes to the portrait of the former prime minister led by MPCC leaders marked the observance held at Imphal Congress Bhavan.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the occasion, former chief minister O Ibobi Singh maintained that terrorism is against society and has no positive impact in any area.

He also said that everyone should join hands to eliminate terrorism and it was the vision of the late prime minister who ended his life at the hands of terrorists.

The former chief minister remembered the contribution of the former prime minister towards strengthening democracy in the country.

“Brutal assassination of such a great leader is a great loss not only for the Congress party but for the nation,” Ibobi also said. Rajiv Gandhi was a leader who had a great dream of maintaining India’s good relationships with its neighbouring countries, Ibobi added.

To realize his dream, Rajiv initiated many good foreign policies. His assassination by terrorists must be condemned by all sections of society irrespective of differences in political ideology, Ibobi added.

The former chief minister also recalled “Rajiv Gandhi’s selfless contributions to the nation and his efforts towards the development of the nation.”

Ibobi reiterated the Congress party’s stance against terrorism.

As part of the observance, Congress leaders and workers took a pledge to stand united against terrorism.

Besides MPCC president K Meghachandra, senior leaders and members of the party attended the occasion.
