Imphal: “When will the centre intervene to stop the protracted violence in Manipur?” the president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) K Meghachandra asked on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference in his office chamber at Congress Bhavan, the MPCC president strongly condemned the “mass killing” of 13 youths in the Tengnoupal district.

Meghachandra said that attacks and killings of people have been going on unabated for seven months since the violence broke out on May 3 last and “the BJP’s double engine government is remaining silent till date”.

“What agenda is behind the silence that is maintained by the government? Why do leaders of the BJP governments, both at the centre and in the state, remain like mere spectators even after several lives have been lost since the outbreak of the violence?” he further asked.

The Congress leader then said that the central leaders including prime minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah were quick enough to share their pains and shocks when people suffered due to cyclones in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry through various social media platforms including the ‘X’.

He alleged that the prime minister does not spare to share his pain and sorrow whenever tragic incidents result in the loss of lives.

Meghachandra then urged the three MPs from Manipur to take up the issue of strife-hit Manipur on the floor of the Parliament in the session.
